A Little Google Love for Geekwhat, My Adsense Experiment
Have you noticed the recent addition to my blog?

That’s right, a little Google love in the form of advertisements. After chatting with Matt a bit on the topic, I decided that I’d give ads another shot (I had ads on my blog a few years back). I’m going to be monitoring the results over these few months to measure the effectiveness of ads on my site and will blog about it later.
Previously, I’d been very much against putting ads on my site, I figured it would clutter the content and distract readers from the real content on the site. But it appears that these ads can indeed be placed in an organized way. This decision also comes after the long discussions about website monetization at Community Next.
After all, I am still that poor college student trying to save on expenses. Making a few bucks here and there wouldn’t hurt ;)

I say go for it. I barely notice them. BUT if the ads get out of control I will be compelled to say something :)

Actually, with niche blogs, google ads is a must. Google somehow tracks the keywords and information on the blog and delivers relevant ads, so you might think about the ads as a service. I’ve had google ads show up on my blog that I wanted to click because I was interested, so I opened another tab and typed in the url (because I can’t click on my own adsense). I came across some good information too. So, there’s monetization, but it’s nominal. Think of it as a service for readers.

Preston, you are totally right. I just checked out some of my previous posts on music and there are some very tempting (and totally relevant) ads that show up. Quite useful!

[…] in February, I began placing ads on my site as an experiment. Looks like it’s paid off so far (no pun intended). […]
